We recently wrote about Timmynaija.com a social networking site built around  Nigerian entertainment. The founder, Timmy Abede took us through the begin right to the current state.

WTN: Let’s meet you.

Timmy: Timmy Abede is one man who dedicated his time, money and idea in making sure that the Nigerian music industry get the right path in online publicity and it all started just for the promotional purpose.
Timmy Abede AKA timmynaija was born into a family of 9 and is the 4th in the Abede family, his father is from Delta state and mother from Bayelsa state.

WTN: What inspired you to create TimmyNaija and when did you start?

Timmy: I created timmynaija.com just for one reason and it was all about the promotional purpose and now it has gone beyond that.
Initially in the year 2006 I started with uploading videos to youtube and dailymotion and I felt that I should do some thing of mine and get the traffic directly to my own website, so the year Created: 2008-11-05 on my birthday I launched www.timmynaija.co.uk and 3 months later Created:2009-01-05 I launch www.timmynaija.com and it became the default domain till this day.
When the site started I had unique visitors of about 85 and 102 daily and 6000 page views with hits of about 40,000 monthly hahahahaha laughing.
The spams you can´t stop but just prevent,user complaints is typical of Nigerians so you will get use to it.
At a point I almost wanted to shut the site and sell it off, but many people told me to keep it because I felt I was doing the right thing but no income and I spent a lot into it and part of my monthly income goes into the website management and adverts through google adwords in making sure that I can meet up with the rest in the competition or the market which did really helped despite the fact that it was among the youngest websites when it comes to the Nigerian music industry promotion is concern. But I just kept pressing for the best .

WTN: How do you make money off the site?

Timmy: In one year now the website earns little from Google Adsense and I have tried in some many ways in making sure that help or sponsors could come in and take this burden from me but good enough the site had gone through a whole lot of changes and I decided to change the whole settings, plans and idea to make it one of a kind and now its worth what it is and probably one of the best Nigerian website you can visit today.

WTN: How is the competition in the entertainment sites like?

Timmy: The competitors are all friends and we some times write to each other or comment over each other posts via Facebook as most of us have Facebook accounts and its one community that we almost can’t hide ourselves from.
Well, they are Nigerianhiphop.net he is more like a brother to me and we share a lot together in making sure that we encourage each other in what ever we do to making sure that the whole things go in the right direction.
Notjustok.com one of my favs; Bellanaija.com we share same naija in common,Afriamz.com a good friend, Wetin-dey.com a good friend and we haven’t been in contact in a while now, Djmightymike.net and lastly my mentor radiopalmwine.com sister Dupe, she is an amazing woman and all thanks to her when the race was really crazy and I just keep pushing for the best in the beginning.

WTN: Where do you see your site in the next couple of years?

Timmy: I see Timmynaija.com in the next 1 year hehehehe, bigger than ever.
Now timmynaija.com is not just promoting Nigerian music, it is Nigeria´s number 1 community online with features that are just amazing and web friendly.

WTN: How are the visits like on your site?

Timmy: Now timmynaija.com have 31,000 unique visitors, hits about 3million and still counting since I introduced the social website to timmynaija.com .
The website was designed first by me and later by a friend who also have a website Nigerianhiphop.net and its been at one time redesigned by a friend in Nigeria Urubusi Peter and back to Finbarrs the owner of Nigerianhiphop.net and he is still the brain behind the success of timmynaija.com.

WTN: Do you reside in Nigeria?

Timmy: Well I do not reside in Nigeria am in Sweden and I have all my contacts from Nigeria and else where around Europe, Asia and the Americas.
I do not have problems in getting contacts with any Nigerian musician because most of them know me and I have been a part of a radio show way back in 1999 with Ray-power 100 FM , Gulder open house party the first radio stand up comedy show, I play the role Timi the Izon boy, with the likes of Akin Akindele,Usman Chukwudi Balogun,Boniface,and host Dr Livy Ajuonuma.

It does really helped being in Europe and working with on-line activities because the internet facilities and time to work on-line is been great and with less stress on like the internet facilities back home, especially when running a website and transferring huge amount of files without thinking about the rate of bandwidth used.
Right now I am working with about 3 people who have dedicated to working with timmynaija.com and willing to give the site the best of service and voluntarily because they felt I do really need help and they will be there when I need them to help me with things on the site, and its been wonderful to see other people wanting to be a part of the website.

A radio presenter, A dj, and 2 other guys who are ready to give it all to making sure timmynaija.com becomes Nigeria´s no1 website.
