Microsoft Imagine Cup Winners, Nigeria
Microsoft held the finals for the imagine cup competition yesterday at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos Nigeria.
I was amazed at the level of innovation displayed by the students yesterday, their software were uncommon, it was indeed a world changing feat.
The Winners
1st Medicare
The software application (Medicare) is aimed at achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals 4, 5, 6 and 7 which are to Reduce Child Mortality; Improve Maternal Health; Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases; and Ensure Environmental Sustainability respectively. Progress has been severely hampered in the achievement of these MDGs due to lack of adequate and qualitative health care in most communities in developing nations around the globe, especially in rural communities. This project is specifically carried out to tackle the problem of healthcare delivery to people without access to qualitative and affordable health care due to shortages of medical doctors and resources in rural areas or geographically isolated regions, and also lack of opportunities for continuing education for rural health workers to cope with emerging health care challenges. Therefore, this results in people living in these areas receiving lower quality medical care than those who live in urban areas. This has resulted in the deaths of many from diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, pneumonia; high child mortality rate, inadequate maternal care and the infection of many diseases from unhygienic conditions and unsafe drinking water.

This solution records class lectures, then encodes the video, transform to audio it would then be transferred over radio signal. Student can listen to lectures on their radio in rural area most especially. In other case, the radio signal can also be re-converted to video for viewing.
