The year just halved! What has happened thus far? Ok. In a separate report, we will detail key happenings in the web industry in the country, internet growth pattern and trends. But first off, let’s look at sites that have made leaps this recent month. The top sites I’m still looking for that site that will effectively take on Nairaland on the number one spot; if you have that brilliant idea and you “sure” it can challenge its dominance, bring it on! Nairaland.com remains at the number one spot, while punchng.com is sitting tight on the second spot for 5 consecutive months now! Vanguardngr.com has regained the 3rd spot after been overtaken by gtbank.com, thisdayonline.com and sunnewsonline.com. Moving up 1 spot and followed closely by gtbank.com which also moved 2 spots up. Thisdayonline.com dropped 2 spots to stay on the 5th spot while nigeriagalleria.com moved up two places to stay on the 6th spot. On the top ten, when you see sites going up in ranking definitely some should be losing out so is the case of 234next.com; it is the biggest casualty in the top ten cadre, losing 4 places. This month we also have a new entrant to the top ten, unilag.edu.ng; it moved a whopping 15 places to stay on the ten spot displacing nigerianbestforum.com.
Top Ten drop outs Nigerianbestforum.com and ngrguardiannews.com are the two drop out from the top ten list this month. Taking a look at our historical ranking, no site has held the spot for 2 consecutive months in the last 6 months, it either move up or drop out. The Movers
The Shakers
The Drop outs
The Debutants
Overall, we have couple of sites still making the top 50, this we believe is a sign of consistency. A very disturbing concern remains the fact that news sites still make up 60% of the top ten most visited Nigerian sites. The performance of the super eagles in the ongoing world cup did tell on some sites (fansconnectonline.com and completesports.com) as the competition was very instrumental in their rise consequently it is also instrumental in their continuous downward trend. Above all, an upbeat still remains in the Nigerian internet market… We are currently compiling the report for half year trends in Nigerian Internet Market our Web Trends Magazine will be out this week. Consumers are still hungry for that one site that will CHANGE the game… do you have that idea? Launch out! Note: Our analysis on this page only review the top fifty Nigerian sites, to view the complete table (about top 100) click here. |
