Not an interesting month for Nigerian sites, we have JUST 4 new entrant this month while 7 among the top dropped. 4 of the 7 that dropped were among last month’s new entrant. This I think could be due to launching bang some of the sites came with which could not be sustained. Myjambexams.com and jambonline.org apparently dropped because JAMB times are over! The surprise drop for me is naijapals.com; the last 3 months it started going down with a climax down period which now leads to its exit in the top Nigerian sites. Naijapals.com launched mobile version recently and also conducted member of the year contest, winner due for announcement this month. I wonder what’s up?
Despite the growth of social networking in Nigeria, Facebook remains a force; it has succeeded in pushing down Google from the second most visited site in Nigeria. Yet, our social networking sites’ hits are dropping by the day. What could the cause be? Right now none of the sites are among the top sites!
Punchng.com overtook nairaland.com last month to become the most visited Nigerian site and as kept nairaland.com at bay. With nairaland.com still shedding a place we want to see how it hopes to slug it out with punchng.com. The sun of sunnewsonline.com as raised as it tramples on naijahotjobs.com and its peer except punchng.com to the number 3 spot. This is really a big rally!
Emerging news power house 234next.com has scooped into the Nigeria top sites this month owing to its success in the offline market. We hope to see it sustain this momentum. Other new entrants’ dragnetnigeria.com, nigeriamasterweb.com and unilag.edu.ng. We hope they sustain the momentum and also give the rest a run for their money! On unilag.edu.ng part, I do not expect it to sustain the momentum because its emergence is due to the upcoming post-ume exam for new students.
The top mover for this month is osundefender.org; this site has been able to work its way up from the bottom of the table couple of months ago to displace well established contenders. Osundefender.org, though not a spectacular site but its become a force in the online new website. It is first Nigerian state-base tabloid to have gotten this far on the internet. Much of its move could be associated with the struggle between the current governor and the AC aspirant in the 2007 election.
The biggest casualty come from the banking subsector, gtbplc.com dropping 4 places while zenithbank.com dropped from 14th place last month to the bottom of the table.

It’s interesting that Punch is still going strong inspite of the restricted access to the content on their site.
Good to see 234next as expected.
