Most Visited Nigerian Sites

In my recent Article, “Nigerian Websites of Interest”, I pointed out some interesting site worth visiting. Some of these sites are already in the top hundred, while some, given time will enter the club.

I will be covering in this article sites that already in the Alexa top-ten Nigerian websites, I will point out what made them got to that spot. In our upcoming monthly buzz, I shall point out the movers and shakers for the month with indepth analysis.

Before I go further, let be give you a brief summary:

  • · 50% of the top sites are news website
  • · Nairaland has remain at the top
  • · Given the economic situation, naijahotjobs.com also is in contention
  • · Also, a bank made to the top-ten; gtbplc.com
  • · Not so surprising is jamb.com.ng. The exam registration is 100% online and millions of Nigerian youths are expected to participate in the exam.
  • · A rising star naijapals.com arguably the top social networking site in Nigeria made to the top-ten.

Here comes the Top-ten Most Visited Nigerian Sites

Nairaland.com: As I noted in the previous article, Nairaland remains Nigeria’s number one site. It’s a forum site with over 200,000 members. Currently ranked 4,904 site in the world. Though Nairaland has dropped in ranking, it used to be in 14th place in Nigerian (compare to others). Giving the continuous investment and personalization made by foreign sites, and the social media crazy of Facebook their visits have increased significantly.

Punchng.com: Nigeria’s mostly widely read news paper. I will attribute its popularity online to is integrity on the news stand couple with the simplicity in the domain name (compare to guardiannewsngr.com, sometimes I have to Google guardian site before I get there). This site has also remained consistent on this spot.

Naijahotjobs.com: this forum-like job finding site is very information. Unlike others in its category, it absolutely free. Most of its income comes from Google adsense. The credit crunch and unemployment rate in the country also contributed to the popularity of this site.

Guardiannewsngr.com: couple with the embattlement of its top Editor Reuben Abati, this site has a laundable leap forward.

Sunnewsonline.com: also making the list, its another news site. Providing online copy for its new paper.

Thisdayonline.com: as the time of visit to this website 10:55pm 19/02/09 the site was down for maintenance. Thisday news paper has been in the forefront of innovative products and even sponsoring. Sitting currently at this post is a sign of recognition it was according offline.

Vanguardngr.com: sitting on this spot is another news paper’s site.

Jamb.org.ng: I will call this a seasonal growth, Jamb period is at hand so the traffic has surge once again. A look at the graph, you will notice that it started picking just last month. It is obvious that the site is for Nigerians and almost 100% visits to the site comes from Nigeria.

Gtbplc.com: “Nigeria’s most IT-driven Bank”. With its e-banking services, GTB has continued to be a pioneering bank in IT innovations. The site is clean, and informative.

Among Nigerian Sites: 9

Naijapals.com: We recently featured Naijapals.com on this site. It has not disappointed us! It has gained more ranking over the last couple of weeks. With almost 200,000 registered users, Naijapals.com is a site to watch for social networking buzz in Nigeria.

Among Nigerian Sites: 10

The list I have highlighted above are not static, some might go up while some might lost their place. The visits to the site page views are the bases for ranking. So keep your leg cross as we monitor their various movements.
