I wrote earlier this year about the potential of the internet market in Nigeria. The stats are changing, and users browsing pattern also changing. According to Internetworldstats.com, Nigerian internet users are now 11,000,000 showing an increase of 10% from 10,000,000. As the internet market expands, broadband penetration and cost of internet subscription is still on the high side. Cost of operation is exorbitant for the ISP, they run mostly on generators. Egypt remains African’s top country with highest internet users (12,600,000). Users Internet browsing pattern The social media frenzy the world is going through has also find it way amongst Nigerians, making the hit rate to sites like, Facebook, Blogger, Wordpress and twitter gained eye-balls from millions Nigeria. Facebook now stands as the second most visited site in Nigeria behind Yahoo, leaving Google in the third place. Nigerians on Facebook now stands at 792,660 up from 657,360 about 17% increase from August figure. As Facebook continues to soar, Nigeria Social Networking sites are struggling for find their feet. As reported on last month’s Top Sites in Nigeria, Forum and News sites remains the interest of Nigerians amongst other Nigerian site. 7.8% penetration is a very low number, the market still have vast room to expand. While the market prepares for a jump, are our entrepreneurs ready? |
