Nigerian Websites of interest

You may be wondering which websites am I talking about? Well my calculation will be based on the number of hits (visits) the sites receives, the number of the registered members, the strategies employed and how relevance the sites really are.

As at the current time of writing this article, Nairaland remains the most active Nigerian site. Other that are doing great are; sturvs, legwork, punchng and others. A comprehensive review of this sites will be made available on our site review section.

Nairaland as you know has been on for almost four years now. I signed up on the site in 2005 and was a regular poster. With its influence I still have click of friends that I met on Nairaland. One thing that struck me most was the way Seun optimized the website. When you Google for anything Nigerian, it shows up. With that the rate of sign up was very high and activities on the website were also impressive. As at now, the site current have more than 250,000 users.

Sturvs, I must give it to those guys I really love their concepts and professionalism. Those guys are smart and up-to-date. The link sharing platform was lovely, just like digg.com. One thing also I like was the ability to have utilized the social media platform effectively. I was on twitter couple of days ago, and Sturvs was the first to tweet me the news about Ronaldo’s crown as world best player. Immediately I click and went up to the 23 years old guy win the coveted award.

Legwork, is also very impressive. I was in a Cybercafé some years ago specifically 2006, and then I saw the poster. In my mind what my thinking was; who are these guys again. Are they here to blow trumpet and fade out? But they gave me benefit of the doubt. Am impressed by their consistency over the years. And that has seen them climb up the Alexa ranking. I have an account on this site but am not that active as I am on facebook.

Enownow, amazingly this site also got my attention. At it launch some years ago, I went to the site to have a test drive, and it was amazing. Even though I didn’t like its organization as at that time (I don’t like clustered websites) but its consistency make it even more a website to reckon with.

Bellanaija, well recently I went to this site and I found it interesting. Based on the famous wordpress application, I love the synthetic designs and content. It got me to add it to my feed reader immediately. Though more of entertainment focus and since I have interest in entertainment and I want to be uptodate, I have found it useful.

Other websites are news site and it’s very obvious why they enjoy high ranking. But for punch they have been consistency on the high-flying rank. Punch has been riding on its integrity offline to keep its visit intact.

(UPDATE)

Naijapal.com, in our initial post this site was not mentioned. We wrote a blog post specifically for this site, read here.
