South Africa Internet Users grows 15%
As South Africa increases its presence on the internet, it has taken another leap towards achieving its web value. South Africa’s Internet/Web Industry is the most vibrant in Africa and they have the largest Facebook (the popular social networking site) users in Africa. Last review, Internet users in South Africa was 4.6 million but in the recent research report by the South Africa based web research firm World Wide Worx it has increased 15% or 700,000 to 5.3 million. This represents 10% penetration amongst its population.
Arthur Goldstuck, MD of World Wide Worx said “The good news is that we will continue to see strong growth in 2010, and we should reach the 6-million mark by the end of the year” World Wide worx is also a local resource firm for the Internet World Stats.
With this analysis; South Africa still remains the fourth country in Africa with largest internet users. Egypt (12.6 Million) is the top in Africa followed by Nigeria (11 Million) and Morocco (10.6 Million). Egypt is on massive investment to increase their online presence and derive value for its populace. Egypt recently made a public statement to enhance broadband population in the country. While Morocco on the other hand is also experiencing growth, Nigeria’s growth is slow given its population compare to other nations and the penetration of telecommunication in the country.
As Africa continues its growth on internet adoption and business, 2010 will indeed witness a massive growth and spending on the internet.
