Update: Telcos pay NCC fines.
“They will pay. A regulator does not issue an order and forget about it. We would always take an action if they don’t follow our directives. But I can tell you that they will pay, maybe by next week.”
The above statement is credited to the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Communications Commission, Engr. Eugene Juwah. And he happens to be right, after all.
The fined telcos – MTN, Airtel, Glo and etisalat – all complained that the operating environment was harsh, when the fines were slammed on them after the NCC accused of them of providing inferior services to Nigerians for the month of March and April.
But there have been discussions between the two parties and the companies have all paid up. Improvements on the services and the operating environment have been discussed in our previous post on the issue.
The total cost of the fine is N1.17 billion. Just wondering, how will that money be spent? NCC, over to you.
