Vodacom Business Nigeria is offering ICT training to university students to prepare them for the labour market, The Punch reported. The firm said its programme is part of its contribution to the development of ICT knowledge in the tertiary institutions and to youth empowerment. It has run a workshop explaining the practical application of ICT, which was attended by lecturers and students from the Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science of Benue State University.
Vernon Van Rooyen, the executive head of networks at Vodacom Business Nigeria, explained the functions and maintenance of network equipment. He also exposed the students to the different products and services being offered by Vodacom with special focus on data centre and management hosting services.
I believe this is a step in the right direction as more companies step up to the challenge of training our graduates who are deficient in basic IT skills since our schools can not provide that education.
