Mobile subscribers in Africa have reached 448.1 million, this according to a report produced by Ovum Research.

Twitter Hires a CFO From Pixar

This is the year that Twitter is slated to start monetizing in a big way. Along those lines, the company has just hired a chief financial officer by way of Pixar Animation Studios.

Facebook Fixes News Feed, Still Irritates Users

Facebook has responded to a news feed issue that users have been experiencing and bellyaching about. On its Facebook Page, the company posted:
“We’ve heard from many of you who are seeing a delay in your News Feed posts. We’ve fixed this issue and you should see your News Feeds gradually return to normal. Thanks for your feedback.”

Online Retail Spending Reaches $39 Billion In Q4

Online retail spending in the U.S. in the fourth quarter reached $39 billion, a 3 percent increase compared to a year ago, according to the latest report from comScore.
Total retail ecommerce spending reached $129.8 billion in 2009, slightly lower than the previous year’s total of $130.1 billion.

How Over 400 Million People Use Facebook

Last week, as Facebook celebrated its sixth birthday, the company announced that it was surpassing the 400 million-user milestone. That’s one good reason why it pays for businesses to have Facebook Pages. That’s not the only impressive number though.

MTN will implement the Mobile Termination Rate (MTR) decrease on 1 March 2010. This was revealed in a statement released by Robert Madzonga, acting chief corporate services officer at MTN South Africa.

Google Buzz: What It Means for Twitter and Facebook

So far, Google has failed to launch a successful social web product to U.S. Internet users. Orkut has taken off in including Brazil and India, but not in North America. Wave is a neat concept, but it has proven too abstract to catch on.
