When Kidnappers come to Facebook; Fela Durotoye for President of Nigeria

Posted: 19, Mar 2010 by Possicon

Wondering? Well so was I! Fela Durotoye is an inspiration to I and many other young Nigerians who believe in the project Nigeria and are working towards it. Fela Durotoye recieved an instruction from God on November 23rd, 2004,  ” to BUILD the PEOPLE that will LEAD the nation and to raise a Generation that is Empowered, Motivated and Stirred To Operate with Natural Excellence (GEMSTONE).

Every step of his is right on the spot towards that instruction. Fela truly is an achiever who’s worthy of emulation.  A true example of someone whose blood is truly Nigerian. He organized Mushin MakeOver recently where over 2000 volunteers worked to repaint the houses area (Mushin, Lagos). Number one thing in this life is to have a vision (depending on where your source lies), Fela’s vision and assignment on earth is to RAISE people who will lift this country, via inspirational leadership and not POSITIONAL leadership which entails; becoming President, Governor and other appointment/elected positions.  Even though he’s a person we look up to, but he has his assignment and he’s focused on it! A distraction of any kind at this time could undermine his efforts and could affect millions of youth who are looking up to him.

Fela Durotoye for President Federal republic of Nigeria

Mr. Victor Ani created a Facebook Page “Fela Durotoye for President Federal republic of Nigeria”, where he’s pushing support for the group. The Page does not in anyway associated with Fela Durotoye, and as such it’s not a true representation of Fela’s vision and mission for this country.

Fela said on his original Facebook page here: “I decided to place a personal phone call to Mr. Victor and quite firmly insisted that he remove the group instantly as it was counter productive to our nation building efforts as his fans would be misled to believe that all I’ve done so far is just to create “political capital for a political position or a Presidential run for Aso Rock“.

After placing the call, the “gentle” man said he wont pull down the page until he meets him face-to-face. Should this be the ransom for the virtual kidnap? A personality says you are misrepresenting him and you said you won’t pull it until you meet him… this is not the right way my brother. I have met with Fela at an occassion and he gladly took picture with everyone present. He also had a time out with his Facebook fans last year. If you want something, you earn, you don’t go about cunning ways to get it.

Social Media and Social Madness

This is just the begging as internet usage and social media is getting to the mainstream in Nigeria. Issues like this will prop up but how do we tackle it? situations like this have happened in various developed countries and people have earned jail term as a result of this. We need to push for enabling laws to navigate the “new normal” we are getting into.

So, Mr. Victor pull down the page has it counter productive to Fela Durotoye’s dream. Remember that we still have laws that can be used against you for blasphemy.

For other celebrities, please brace up for the new world of social media.
